Change the Script

Your story is the most powerful thing you own. It’s time to use it.

Change the Script™ helps women — and the organisations that employ them — use storytelling to build confidence, reclaim their voice, and rewrite the narratives holding them back.

Who is behind Change the Script™?

I’m Pollie Rafferty — a storyteller, facilitator, and narrative therapist with over two decades of experience helping people find and use their voice.

I’ve spent more than ten years working in youth work and education, supporting some of the most complex young people in secondary school settings, delivering PSHE, and watching how the stories an institution tells about itself shape everything — from how teachers show up, to how young people see their own potential.

I’ve also been the woman sitting in the meeting who was the most qualified person in the room and still wasn’t heard. I know what it costs — personally, professionally, and organisationally — when women’s voices go unrecognised.

That experience is why I do this work. And it’s why I’m good at it.

Testimonials

Suzie Bright

Personally I have a big fear of public speaking, which affects me even in a small group let alone a large one. I've avoided doing anything about it until I attended her training. Pollie is a very authentic and inspiring person, and a great trainer. I was fascinated to learn how the human brain has evolved this innate fear, as well as cultural conditioning, and family script messages add to the layers of deep fear and avoidance to challenge ourselves. It’s good to know Pollie is there to help me take the next step of challenging my fear. I know how profoundly transformative this journey will be.

Jane Evens

Pollie has followed her love and passion for stroytelling and has created her new business (see below).

I had a 1:1 online session with her recently to talk about the story behind my new business. Pollie really helped me drill down into my story and how to use this best to grow my business.

It was super interesting and helpful and I would encourage anyone to book in with her

Frequently asked questions

You've got questions. We've got answers.

What is Change the Script™?

Change the Script™ is a coaching, workshops, and speaking business for women who feel unheard — especially carers, parents, and neurodivergent women in business. Founded by Pollie Rafferty, it uses storytelling, narrative therapy, and psychology to help women rewrite the internal narratives holding them back and speak about their lives and work with confidence.

What is narrative therapy and how does it help with confidence?

Narrative therapy is a therapeutic approach developed by Michael White and David Epston that helps people examine and rewrite the stories they tell about themselves. Rather than treating people as problems to be fixed, it recognises that the stories we've absorbed — from family, culture, and society — shape how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible. By identifying and questioning those stories, people can consciously choose different ones. Pollie holds a Distinction in Narrative Therapy and has used these techniques alongside psychology and storytelling.

Who is Change the Script™ for?

Change the Script™ is primarily for women aged 30–55 who are carers, parents, neurodivergent, or managing a chronic illness — and who want to speak about their lives and businesses with more confidence. The work is also valuable for organisations wanting to support female staff, improve psychological safety, and reduce the cost of losing talented women who don't feel heard.

Why do women struggle to talk about their business?

Research consistently shows that women are more likely to undervalue their expertise and experience impostor syndrome. Societal stories — absorbed from childhood about who gets to take up space, speak up, and be taken seriously — become internalised as personal truth. For neurodivergent women, this is often compounded by years of masking, rejection sensitivity, and being told they are "too much" or "not enough." Change the Script™ addresses these patterns at the root, using storytelling and narrative transformation rather than surface-level confidence tips.

What is the STAR Storytelling System?

The STAR Storytelling System is a framework developed by Pollie Rafferty to help people find, shape, and share their personal and business stories effectively. It helps users identify the right story to tell, understand their why, and structure their story in a way that creates genuine emotional connection with their audience — without trauma dumping or oversharing. It has been used in speaking engagements, coaching sessions, and workshops since 2021.

Is Change the Script™ suitable for neurodivergent women?

Yes — the whole approach is designed with neurodivergent women in mind. Pollie is AuDHD herself (diagnosed with autism and ADHD) and is a parent of neurodivergent children. All programmes are designed to be low-pressure, paced compassionately, and free from the hustle-culture assumptions that make most business coaching inaccessible for women with fluctuating capacity. Sessions are trauma-aware and shame-free.

How is storytelling different from just talking about yourself?

We've been telling stories for 40,000 years — and there's a reason they stick. Research shows we are 22 times more likely to remember a story than a fact or statistic (Aaker, 2013, Stanford University). When someone shares a story, the same neurons fire in the listener's brain as in the storyteller's — creating genuine connection rather than information transfer. Story selling is different from storytelling: it's about finding the true, shaped narrative that connects your experience to the people you're trying to reach, without oversharing or performing.

What workshops does Change the Script™ offer for organisations?

Change the Script™ offers three core workshops for organisations: Finding Your Voice at Work (half-day, for female staff or mixed teams), Rewriting the Internal Script (full-day, for women in leadership), and The Story Your Organisation Is Telling (two hours, for managers and team leads). All are grounded in narrative therapy and neurodivergence-informed practice. They are particularly suited to charities, housing associations, education settings, and organisations with EDI commitments. Full details are on the For Organisations page.

How can I work with Pollie?

There are several ways to work with Change the Script™. For women in business: a one-off Business Story Mastery Session (£249), the 12-week change the Script in Business Mastery Course (£595), or a free Discovery Call to explore what's right for you. For organisations: bespoke workshop packages. For events: Pollie is available to book as a keynote speaker. The best starting point for most people is the free Discovery Call.
